Jose).The Representations of the inner light are Religion, Art and Science. So
inorder to analyse the life style of a society, one needs to go with Religion,Art
and Science. The begining stage of the present civilization traces back to
the lives of our ancestors who were living in the forest. The Basis of
our civilization is the same forest.
Attappadi is such a Historical place with so many
traditional and geographical backgrounds. It is a protected reserve forest
comprising of 249km2, and is situated, in Palakkad district of
Kerala, south India which is a part of Mannarkkad Taluk. Attappadi is an
extensive mountain valley at the headwaters of the Bhavani River nestled below
the Nilgiri Hills of the Western Ghats. It is bordered by Coimbatore district
in Tamil Nadu, the Nilgiris, Mannarkkad Taluk and Eranad Taluk in Malapuram
District. Attappadi is an
informal buffer zone into which Silent Valley National Park is attached
to the West. The Buffer Zone was formally approved by the Kerala
Government in 2007. It is a Liquor free area with strict restrictions. The
elevation of Attappadi valley ranges
from 750 meters (2,460 ft) to the Malleeswaram peak which rises to 1,664
meters (5,459 ft) from the center of the valley. The Bhavani River flows
from the Northwest around the mountain in a tight bend past Attappadi village and
continues to the Southeast.
Attappadi reserve forest receives a high rainfall
of 4900 mm. Moving eastward along the Attappadi valley
towards Agali, the rainfall steadily decreases to a low of 900 mm. Silent
valley is one of the famous Rainforests all over India.
There
are 206 hamlets in Attappadi. The population of Attappadi is mostly
included with different categories of Tribes (Muduga, Irula, Kurumba, Dhoduga)
and a section of settlers from Tamil Nadu and Other Districts of Kerala.
